The winter solstice is one of the most sacred times for it marks the longest night and the shortest day of the calendar year. It is also a turning point, where we are promised that the light will, once again, triumph over the darkness. For centuries, our Ancestors have honored and celebrated the returning of the Sun for it always promises new life and rebirth.
As I write this, the solstice is still over two weeks away, however these powerful energies are already here for us to access and will continue to get stronger as we get closer to December 21st. These energies are filled with a fresh, regenerative kind of frequency that encourages purification on the deepest levels, peace of heart, and the releasing of negativity and blockages once and for all.
As you prepare to enter this sacred passageway of the solstice and the new year, I'd highly encourage you to spend the next few weeks doing some serious energetic clearing. One of my favorite ways to cleanse myself spiritually is through a conscious shower cleanse. Here's how to do it...
Preparation
For this ritual, all you will need is a private place to shower, a fresh bunch of eucalyptus or eucalyptus essential oil, a handful of sea salt, and a squirt of body oil or body wash. You may also wish to enhance your ritual shower with a sacred setting or healing tools such as crystals, dim lighting, candles, or peaceful music.
Eucalyptus has long been known for its spiritual benefits, including its ability to clear negative energies, release unhealthy attachments, and restore optimism and vitality. I love this message from Tree Spirit Wisdom:
The spirit of eucalyptus wants us to awaken to our true power and visualize a new way of being. Now is the time to draw on our inner resources and challenge ourselves to overcome the obstacles that lay in our path. The element of fire, associated with eucalyptus, provides the strength and purification we need to make dramatic changes in our life. It reminds us to cleanse our space of any clutter (physical, emotional, etc..) which may be holding us.
Prepare your shower space by tying your fresh bunch of eucalyptus to your shower head. Or add a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil around the perimeter of your shower floor. If using essential oil, be sure to sprinkle the oil in the corners and along the edges where water won't heavily flow to them. Gather your salt into a small bowl and place near your body oil or wash so that you can access it easily. Set the mood and begin to center yourself.
Intention
When you feel ready, step into the shower. As the water begins to touch your body, begin to invoke the Spirit of Water and the Water Spirits. These Spirits embody the water-like frequencies of cleansing, purification, healing, reconciliation, effortless flow, and peace. In your own way, invite them to come in and give them permission to assist you. You may also want to invite your other Spirit Allies, such as your Angels, Spirit Guides, Ancestors, or other helping Spirits.
Remember, this is a cleansing ritual, so you want to approach it as such. I believe that we should always invite our benevolent and compassionate Spirit Allies to all healing experiences and rituals. For it is when Spirit is present that anything can happen!
Once you have invited your team to come in, you want to make a statement or prayer of intention. I always say that wherever your intention goes, is where the energy flows. So having a clear, strong intention for your sacred shower cleanse ritual is of upmost importance.
If you speak from your heart, there's no wrong way to do an invocation or set an intention. So, don't worry if you're new to this. Spirit doesn't care how we speak to them, but they do care if we are being authentic, sincere, and even vulnerable. Even if that means we fumble through our words, Spirit listens with their heart, not their ears!
Therefore, a script in this case is unnecessary. In fact, I encourage you to go "off script" and speak from your heart. Why are you calling on Spirit today? What is it that you are needing help with? What are you wanting to cleanse or purify from your body, mind, heart, and Soul? What obstacles or blockages are you asking the Water to move out of your way? As you make an intention or prayer, speak it into the Water.
I can't stress to you enough that you need to make your intention your own! However, this example is simply to give you an idea of what I might say to the water. It varies every time:
Dear benevolent and compassionate Spirits that walk with me and are here to serve my highest Divine alignment. I invite you into this healing space with me now. I welcome the healing, cleansing, and reconciling Spirit of the Water and all the loving Water Spirits to be with me. I also call on my Ancestors, my Angels, my Spirit Guides, and all other Spirits that are here with me today that would like to assist in this healing, cleansing ritual. Thank you for being here.
At this time, may this space, my body, my heart, my mind, and my Soul be completely cleansed and purified of anything that is not in my highest Divine alignment. I ask that everything that I have obtained over this past year that no longer serves me be released into the water. I release to you all my worries, fears, anxieties, and pains.
I also ask that the way into this upcoming new year be clear. May all obstacles and adversities that are preventing me from living my highest purpose and life path be peacefully removed. May my way forward be clear and open. I love you. I thank you. I bless you. So, it is.
Conscious Shower Cleanse
After you've spoken your declaration for healing, take a few minutes to deeply breathe in the fresh, revitalizing scent of the eucalyptus. A nice, steamy shower will help to carry the aromatic essence of this plant all around your body and into your airways. Allow this sacred plant to open your senses and clear your mind, body, and Soul.
Begin to visualize the water washing away everything that you've asked for. Imagine that everything that is not in your highest good is being washed from you and sent down the drain.
Next, you'll gently cleanse your body with a homemade sea salt scrub. To do this, simply squirt a little bath oil, carrier oil or body wash into the palm of your hand and add a spoonful of sea salt. I like to start upwards, near my shoulders and arms and gently and consciously scrub my whole body with the salty mixture. Use as much salt as you need to ritually cleanse your entire body.
A little advice… You want to avoid putting the salt near sensitive areas, such as your face and neck. In addition, be mindful that this could make the shower floor a bit slippery.
Salt is one of the quickest and easiest tools you can use to cleanse your energy field of negative or unwanted energy. Make sure you use real, sea salt (not Epsom salt) as this is the best kind to use for energetic clearing. Personally, I buy Himalayan Pink Sea salt in bulk and use it weekly in my baths and showers.
Before you get out of the shower, be sure to offer your thanks and gratitude to the Water and helping Spirits.
Repeat as Needed
This sacred cleansing ritual can be done anytime throughout the year. I usually do some kind of salt and essential oil clearing ritual in my bath and shower at least once a week, but sometimes I need it more often.
During the winter solstice, it would be a good idea to do this ritual at least once during the week leading up to the solstice, once during the solstice (or the 3-5 days surrounding it), and once during the week after the solstice. Personally, I think I will strive to do this cleansing ritual or something similar at least every other day from now until the New Year.
You may also choose to make your own DIY Energy Clearing Salt Scrub if this is something you are going to utilize often. It keeps really well for several months in an airtight container near the shower. You may also choose to modify this ritual and do it in the bath instead, in which case, after you're done soaking, you'd visualize everything that was cleared going down the drain.
Energetic cleansing happens in layers and stages, that's why this is not a "once and done" healing ritual. With each shower, an old layer of you that is no longer needed will be shed down the drain. Therefore, you need to repeat this ritual as often as you can or as needed. I will often do a cleansing ritual, such as this one, during every New Moon to ensure that energetic clearing is always happening.
