2025: An Earth Year

According to Dagara cosmology, 2025 is an Earth year. It is a year that will enhance our sense of belonging, restore our sense of identity, and provide healing energy to the home and family.

The Earth element represents the physical and material world. It often is associated with matters related to abundance, material gain, possessions, money, prosperity, the physical home, family, and the physical self or body. So, an Earth year means that there will be many opportunities to learn lessons focused around these areas.

The Earth is our home. She is where we belong. She gives us sustenance and loves us unconditionally. And she makes it possible for us to feel connected to each other.

Below I'm sharing three themes that I've been feeling into for the next year based off of the Dagara cosmology and my own personal guidance. This year seems to have overall themes for many that include those related to matters of the home or family, a sense of belonging, and being of service.

Home and Family

The last time we had an Earth year was in 2020, which for many was defined by the worldwide pandemic. During this time, many people were placed into lockdowns and stay-at-home situations, where home and family became the central focus for billions of people.

Now, I'm not saying that a similar situation will happen again. But, Earth years do tend to shift and realign us in our roles with regards to the home and family.

In Dagara cosmology, the Earth is the central Element. She forms a small, yellow circle right in the center of the medicine wheel. Her central location points to the importance of family and community as the focal point in our lives. Malidoma always described the Earth as the mother who invites us to come home. She invites us to come home to ourselves, our family, our community, our friends, and, of course, the Earth -- our true home.

If you are one of those people who have felt isolated from your home and family, the earth frequency of 2025 may push you towards a state of reconciliation and balance. Furthermore, it may encourage you to seek outside of the family you were born into, to create your own sense of family bonds within the "family you choose" via your friends and community.

This entire year will be an initiation for individuals to deepen or heal their relationships with family. I, myself, have even found that my role as the mother of our household will shift drastically at the start of 2025 as I take on a new and exciting role of homeschooling. My time and attention is being realigned so that the home and family is my center.

You may find yourself getting clearer about your roles and purpose in the family unit. Similarly, you may find the path laid out before your family changing in new and unexpecting ways. The Earth energy will also bring a healing and reconciling frequency to family relationships.

Sense of Belonging

The Earth is a symbol of our sense of belonging. In divination, the earth stone often suggests the nourishment and support of the Earth Mother that gives us a sense of feeling like we belong. This energy allows us to expand and grow because we feel strong, we feel seen, and we feel heard.

The Earth's divination stone spells out that you know who you are, where you come from, and where you are going. Therefore, I believe 2025 will give us opportunities to reevaluate these answers for our own lives in order to bring us closer to a fulfillment of purpose.

In divination, when the Earth stone is in alignment in the Earth section of the cloth, it means that a person's identity is confirmed and affirmed. It means that wherever they are in their current life, "they are home." So, if any part of your life is out of alignment, you can expect the energy of 2025 to gently bring you back to where you belong.

When a person feels like they are truly "at home" and belongs right where they are, there's a sense of feeling anchored and grounded that permeates throughout the person's life. This gives them a sense of strength and stability that is needed to fulfill one's mission.

For some people in 2025, they will find that their time and energy is most needed within the home and family, and so they will adjust their lives accordingly. For others, they will find that they belong in the world of Spirit and are most "at home" with themselves when they are strengthening their connection to God. Still, others may find a stronger sense of belonging in nature or with community, for example. 2025 is the year to figure out where you belong!

Our world really needs the touch of Earth in every endeavor. You are being challenged to find the people, places, and activities that ground you, especially during this year. Let yourself devote more time to finding your sense of belonging. When a new door opens, fearlessly allow yourself to walk through it. Similarly, when an old door feels like it's closing, allow it to.

SErvice

The Earth is here to be in service to humanity and the greater good. Since we are an extension of this planet that we call Earth, we too, are here to be in service to others. Like Earth, we are here to honor and respect all life. We are being called to respect everyone and everything that is tended to by the Earth, without discriminating.

Malidoma always described the Earth as "the Mother" on whose lap everyone finds a home, nourishment, support, comfort and empowerment. As you enter the new Earth year, prepare to touch the lives of those who need it the most.

Earth people are incredible healers. They know all about unconditional love, non-judgement, and Divine neutrality. These will be central themes for humanity in the upcoming year. We must learn to stop placing people in groups as "others" and start embracing them as equal and connected to us. When division seems like it is at an all-time high, the Earth-year energy will begin to heal the human divide and restore our sense of humanity.

Earth people also bring out the best in others because they can see people as they truly are. So, we are all being called to become more like Earth Mothers in this new chapter of life. To be an Earth Mother is to consistently ask, "How might I be able to make the people in my life feel more seen, held, supported, and nourished? How can I make them feel more at home?"

The Earth also represents visibility -- the power to notice, to see, and to be seen. You cannot be in service to others if you're not putting yourself in positions to do so. The upcoming year is a time to step out of your comfort zone and be an anchor for others. Step into leadership roles or find new ways to help bring out other people's unique gifts, medicine, and beauty. It may be a time for you to establish new roles and relationships in community.

In the coming year, I expect to see a lot of new leaders emerging who are in service to others, not service to self. Leaders who are truly selfless and put the needs of the greater good above their own desires and ambitions. (It's about time!) I'm also anticipating movements and momentum shifting to this new kind of servant leadership. As the saying goes, "the old guard has fallen" and humanity has chosen to shift into a new and higher timeline.

As I write this, I am reminded of the beautiful blessing that was experienced all throughout the planet during the last Earth year in 2020. Many people found new and creative ways to care for others. There was a shared sense of togetherness as we all found ourselves repeating the mantra, "we're in this together."

Unfortunately, it sometimes takes a tragedy to show us how very loving and generous humanity can be. I do not believe 2025 will be anything like 2020 (cue sigh of relief!) however, I do think we will begin to heal the massive separations that exist within us. We will be challenged with new opportunities to crack our hearts open even more and love one another, as God has loved us.

Earth Rituals for Healing

The purpose of an Earth ritual in the Dagara tradition is to provide a sense of belonging, a remembrance of home, and an experience of being "grounded" in the most literal sense. An Earth ritual awakens the memory within us that we are each being held and supported.

An Earth ritual is often given to someone who doesn't feel like they belong or is experiencing a sense of loss or disconnect. It is believed that invoking the Earth will help to bring them back home to themselves. If you'd like to connect deeper to the Earth energy, here's a few simple Earth rituals you may like to try:

• Lie or sit on the "Earth's lap." Consciously rest on the ground with the intention to release your problems, stresses, fears, and worries to the Great Mother. I created a guided Earth Mother Healing meditation that can be found here.

• Walk barefoot or sit on the Earth while meditating, praying, breathing, or contemplating.

• Soak in a mud bath for 15-20 minutes.

• Milk baths are also symbolic of connecting to the Mother's milk.

• Cover parts of yourself in mud or wet clay until it dries and falls off.

• Gardening and planting can be a beautiful way to connect to the Earth.

• A homemade "offering" can be returned to the Earth as an expression of gratitude and blessings for her unwavering support.

• Wrap yourself in weighted blankets to create the sense of being held.

• Gather Earth from the place of your birth or from a place that is special to you.

Overall, Earth energy tends to be firm, solid, stable, patient, strong, and wise. I am sending you many blessings as you move into this earth year and hope that you may come to embody the Earth energy throughout the year ahead.
